When it comes to decorating your apartment it may seem like something impossible. While painting those stark white walls may be frowned upon, decorating through curated pieces is not! I personally love the stark white walls because it allows me to decorate through decorative pieces and art!
Here are a few ways you can step up your apartment style:
Know Your Style
Your style interior decor style is going to help guide you on your decorating journey! I have mine down to Eclectic. I like a little bit of everything. However, I know I want me home to be minimalistic, modern, trendy and functional. Anytime I find some of quality, it fits my home design and I feel like I cannot be without it – I buy it!
Maybe you like the traditional look or even the clean lines of the modern look. Whatever it is, know it. It will make decorating for your apartment much easier.
A huge tip is to create a mood board. You can do this through cutting pictures from a magazine (LOVE domino mag) and pinning to a board or through Pinterest. I chose to make a mood board on Pinterest to initially find out my style. I pinned any items I found from around the internet that caught my eye or had something that stood out to me. When you step back and look at the pictures you’ve chosen as a whole, you easily see what you’re into.
Art
Add art pieces. This could be anything from handmade Esty finds to photography prints from the Minted Collab at Domino.
My favorite way to display art is through a gallery wall. A carefully curated gallery wall on a big enough wall to display your favorites. For me this means mixing art and sentimental pictures with varying sizes and frames. My favorite place to find frames is HomeGoods, while my favorite place to find art has been Domino. I am currently loving the Minted collaboration.
Rugs
Rugs are a quick way to shape a room. When you’re in an apartment a rug can be your go-to decor piece when hanging things on the walls are not an option.
Rugs can last you a very long time if you treat them right! They can easily be a piece you bring with you when your transition into a house. With that being said, you want to look for quality!
You can either choose to play it safe, like me, and go for a simple easy on the eye rug or go bold! Maybe you like keeping your decor simple and making a statement with a rug.
Texture
One part of decorating I am just realizing is: texture. Bring texture into your designs, which can be done in so many ways. It could be through plants, textiles, knitted throws, patterns or the type of material your furniture is made of – like velvet. It should add dimension and looks like it’s something you want to touch.
The texture I’m loving right now : tufted
The texture currently trending: tapestries
Personally, I liked to add texture through plants, wicker baskets, wood furniture, throws and patterned pillows.
Greenery
My favorite thing right now – adding greenery to my home. I recently bought a fiddle leaf fig and it was exactly what my home was missing. Greenery bring so much life to your home, literally. Greens will look great and keep your air pure!
Visit your local farmers market. I found my fiddle leaf fig there and it’s beautiful! They are also very helpful when it comes to caring for your plant.

For me the hardest part is really to define my style! I guess eclectic describes it well, but I sometimes find that there is no cohesion between the pieces I have.

I love this! I’m so decor-challenged. My mother is an interior design guru and I somehow lack that gene. These tips are really helpful.

I love your apartment! If I didn’t have a baby on the way i would have decorated a lot more, instead I have been looking into baby proofing which is way less fun!

Such great tips! I love decorating and I took a lot of time creating gallery walls and adding floral accents. It really feels like home when it’s decorated!
