Candle to Catchall

One of my favorite things in the world is to re-purpose fun candle jars into cups, bowls, catchalls and anything else in between. I purposely buy the candle jars that have the best designs just for this – milk glass, lace designs, depression glass and anything that looks unique. Honestly, some of my favorite wine glasses were previously candles.

I even have a theory about HomeGoods and it’s that the candle are honestly shit (no fragrance), but the glasses/jars they are in were made for re-purposing into something better. Target on the other hand is my favorite place to find candles that smell amazing and come in the cutest jars.

Today I’m sharing how I took this Opal House candle from Target and turned it into a little match holder/catchall for my coffee table.

Candle to Catchall:

1st: Once your candle is burnt out, put the candle jar in the freezer. I normally leave it in there for a couple of days, because I just forget. But, you wan the wax to become hard so that getting the wax out is super easy.

2nd: Using a knife, poke the wax until it starts to crack. Since it’s frozen it will crack in big pieces making it super easy to scoop out.

3rd: Sometimes I have candles, like Volcano from Capri Blue, that are A. Expensive and B. don’t burn all of the wax. So, I typically will put any access wax into a ziploc, place it in the freezer and use it in my wax melter. So much re-purposing, I love it.

4th: The wicks are typically glued to the bottom with some hefty stuff. Depending on the jar, you can either yank them out or I use pliers to pull them out.

5th: Using Goo Gone, coat the jar with it and let it sit for a little while. This helps get out any left over wax and glue. Then wash it out with soap and water.
